This past month, Thrive LA had the honor of hosting Mike Madrid, a renowned political strategist and co-founder of the Lincoln Project. He shared key insights from his latest book, The Latino Century, which explores the growing influence of the Latino electorate in American politics.
Madrid argues that both major parties are misreading the Latino vote ahead of the 2024 presidential cycle. Contrary to stereotypes, Latinos are not a monolithic group focused solely on immigration and border issues. Instead, jobs and the economy consistently top their list of concerns. He also highlights the diversity within the Latino community—many U.S. Latinos are not immigrants, and a significant portion don’t speak Spanish.
As the largest racial or ethnic minority in the U.S., now representing about 19% of the population, Latinos are positioned to play a crucial role in shaping the future of American democracy. Madrid’s analysis underscores the importance of recognizing and mobilizing this influential group in the upcoming elections.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this enlightening discussion, and a special thanks to Mike Madrid for sharing his expertise with Thrive LA.
